Question by Montgomery B: This is one of my favourites, what do you think?
The truth about Christmas Fairies
Well, Christmas is coming round again, a time to be happy, they say;
When everyone else is having their fun, I`ll be dreading that awful
day
Because, you see – now listen to me – just kindly spare me a minute
Christmas for me is sheer mis-er-ree, and cheerfulness just isn`t
in it!
For I am the Christmas Fairy you know, and life ain`t all what it
seems
I`m chucked in the cupboard for most of the year, with them baubles
and trimmings and things
In the month of Octember – since I can remember – I`m rudely dragged
out of me box
With in-dig-nity I`m stuck on this tree, with branches shoved right
up me frock!!
It`s really a farce, how things came to parss, and how I got stuck
right up here
Not really surprising, it`s only disguising, what happens to me every
yeer.
`Cause on that one night, before the first light, the toys have their
own Christmas break
And each Christmas morning, I have to give warning, if I hear yooman
children awake.
In the wee small hours of Christmas day, when it`s quiet and hardly
a sound
Except for the chimes of the old church clock, and the snow lies crisp
all around
Frost comes again, to etch window-panes, with patterns of ferns and
it`s leaves
And twinkles of moonlight reflect frosted-jewels, on this diamond-bright
Christmas Eve
A rustling spree by the green Christmas tree as the toys then peep
out to play
Whispering greetings to each, as they meet, “It`s a Happy Christmas
Day!”
With lots of wiggles, and delightful giggles, they wriggle out of
their boxes
And act out their role, by the chimbley-hole, where the Yoomans have
hung up their soxes
There`s a teddy-bear with a grumpy growl, and Action Man with his
gun
And Evel Knievel`s motor-bike, doing wheelies, isn`t it fun!!
There`s a walking doll, a talking doll, and a box of soldier boys
Marching smartly along the shelf, it`s Christmas games for toys!
Then comes the dawning, it`s Christmas morning, and they scurry as
quick as can be
Knowing that any moment now, the Yoomans will wake pres-ent-ly
Action Man takes cover now, and the doll with long golden locks
And Evel Knievel will scramble again, to park his bike in it`s box
That leaves little me, on top of this tree, look close, and you`ll
see my distress
`Cause Christmas has come, and it isn`t much fun, with these branches
stuck right up me dress!!
So Christmas will come again next year, and this years` toys will
have gone,
Some other toys will take their place – and so it goes on – and goes
on..
And come next Octember, they won`t even remember, this poor old little
me
Oh, dear – it`s so hard – just keeping a guard – on this branch -
on the top – of this tree!!
