Question by gardener42: Why do referees get taken in by diving so much?
I’m an Aldershot Town fan and it seems to be worse in the league. I have just been to two games where great strapping defenders were falling all over the place at the slightest push. Yes, I know it happens at all levels but what is so frustrating is that the refs are taken in by it time after time. If I and thousands of fans know it’s a dive why doesn’t the referee? A few years ago referees were give a directive to book players for “simulation” when are they going to start doing it?

Because they do not have peripheral vision, so they cannot see the incident clearly, and have to rely on there instincts and the assistants running the line……….but agree with you, we are definitely becoming a non-contact sport.

Why Grand Theft Auto 4 Is The Biggest Video Game Of 2008

Grand Theft Auto 4 is set to be released next week and game analysts are suggesting that it is not only the biggest release of the year but also the game that could really push on the sales of the next generation consoles. Unless the game is a disappointment which with all the buzz and early information seems unlikely it could potentially be the one of the biggest next generation games yet easily. Rarely before have stores stopped taking pre-orders as early as two weeks ago because they had fully allocated all of their stock.

The Grand Theft Auto series has always been popular and also very controversial. The first game encountered all kinds of problems with the BBFC and all the games since have also suffered from problems with getting a rating for the game. The games however are always stylish and usually good fun.

Rockstar have released Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2 for free on the website linked below so users can relieve the original Grand Theft Auto experience before diving into the new GTA (if you can get a copy).

Grand Theft Auto as a series has sold 70million copies of the game since 1997 which places it in the top 5 selling video games of all time. This means that the publicity may not be as intense as some of the newer Wii products because Rockstar know that this game will sell and gain hype just via the name alone.

The game has been set back various times and information was scarce about the latest installment for a while but now videos and trailers can be seen everywhere and it is save to say that early reviews are suggesting this game will be massive and by far the best installment yet with it being the first one to feature online facilities.

Some of the best features have been the voice acting such as Ray Liotta and Samuel L Jackson and whilst details are still scarce about the acting it is known that comedian Ricky Gervais will play a part in the game at a comedian in one of the clubs your character can visit. This time round you don’t play a 70s character or Hood Gangsta but a middle eastern character in once again Liberty City.

It has certainly created a lot of buzz for Rockstar and got video game fans excited and we shall see next week if the hype is justified.

Diving is so common in the beautiful game now, I know cause my coach tells me “contact in the box, hit the deck” and we have won games because of it. Silly challenges or soft pens!
winning is winning(wher are the aussies now) they wont get the cup if italy go on to win!

Are Puzzle Games Becoming More Popular?

Puzzle games have long been a staple in your average gamer’s diversionary diet. These games may feature rotating blocks, finding words, or matching colors. But regardless of the mechanic, puzzle games have survived for decades within the overwhelmingly competitive video gaming industry. But can this trend continue? Industry experts struggle to determine the longevity of the puzzle game, in the face of blockbuster titles like Bungie’s Halo 3—a game that was viewed by more people than any film released this year.

But what do these “Super” games have that a game like Tetris doesn’t. Graphics? Sure. Super-amazing-drop-your-jaw-kinda-graphics have become almost commonplace in the gaming industry. Two years ago, a game like F.E.A.R. was considered “Beautiful” and “Amazing” in terms of graphical performance when it was released on the PC. But now, the game pales in comparison to titles such as Unreal Tournament 3, or Bioshock. Even games that were released as many as six months ago are already looking shabby compared to the latest offerings by gaming’s top companies.

But the puzzle game somehow survives. –How can that be?

Well, in a word, Gameplay.

Despite the worlds love for pretty graphics and colorful explosions, solid gameplay beats the pants off shiny graphics nine times out of ten. Sure some games have amazing graphics, but more often than not, these titles are beaten and tossed aside within 10 hours of gaming. How many hours of gaming do you think Tetris provided to the average gamer? Try over a hundred. But that’s Tetris—all games can’t be Tetris. So what else is out there?

For starters, a recent release from Jenkatgames.com entitled “Discombobulated” springs to mind. Discombobulated is an amazing game that shares more than a little with the aforementioned Tetris. Discombobulated is free. And like most online games at companies like Bigfish.com or Jenkatgames.com, they’re just a good, if not better than their expensive counterparts.

Puzzle gaming isn’t going away. If anything, it’s getting stronger. Even the big league gaming consoles like the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 have began to release puzzle games downloads for their online subscribers. But these games often come with a six to ten dollar price tag, offering, at times, the exact same game that would be free on the world wide web. So before you dive into your next sixty dollar video game purchase, take a look at what these online gaming companies are offering up these days. Because in the end. It’s all about the gameplay.
